Walk Worthy of your Vocation

Walk Worthy of your Vocation

Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians (portion)

I therefore, the prisoner of the LORD, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith you are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3) KJV

Question:

How do we walk worthy of our calling?

  • That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.

  • Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

  • That ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

  • Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

  • Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.

  • Neither give place to the devil.

  • Let him that stole steal no more; rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needed.

  • Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

  • Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

  • Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.

  • Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Paul, the Apostle Encourages Young Timothy

11 Timothy 3:12-17 KJV

….and all that will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution, but evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.  Continue in the things which you have learned and have been assured, knowing of whom you have learned them;  And that from a child you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

  • All scripture is given by inspiration of GOD
  • Profitable for doctrine
  • Profitable for Reproof
  • Profitable for Correction
  • Instruction in righteousness
  • That the man of GOD may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works

Question:

  1. Paul tells Timothy “that from a child you have known the Holy Scriptures”.  What Holy Scriptures was Paul referring?  The Hebrew Scriptures from Genesis to Malachi.
  2. How would the Holy Scriptures benefit Timothy?

Make him wise unto salvation through faith in Jesus ChristThe Holy Scriptures must be coupled with faith in Jesus Christ.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.  John 3:11-21 (KJV)
