RESIST the devil with the WORD of GOD October 2020

RESIST the devil with the WORD of GOD  September 2020

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward hungry. When the tempter came to Him, he said if thou be the Son of GOD, command that these stones be made bread. He answered and said, it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of GOD.

Then the devil took Him up into the Holy City, and set Him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto Him, If thou be the Son of GOD, cast thyself down, for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, it is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the LORD thy GOD. Again, the devil taketh Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto Him, all these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then said Jesus unto him, get thee hence, Satan; for it is written, thou shalt worship the LORD thy GOD, and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth Him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto Him.

Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim;  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; the people which sat in darkness saw great light, and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.  From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

Note: Zebulon and Naphtali (read Genesis 29-30) are two of Jacob’s (later renamed Israel, read Genesis 32:24-32) 12 sons, hence the children of Israel.  Jacob was a twin son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham and Sarah.  The prophecy regarding the above sons of Jacob, and their tribal location, which bares their name is located in Isaiah 9:1-2) and the Great Light is King Yahshua, whose Name means “Salvation”.

Questions to Ponder:

  • What role does the Word of GOD play in resisting temptation?
  • What happens when a Christian consistently resists temptation?
  • What situations make us especially vulnerable to temptation?
  • In what ways can we make temptation more difficult to resist?

According to Matthew chapter 4, Yahshua consistently stated “It is written”. Where were His responses written?

Note: Yahshua’s first response is found in the Book of the Law of YHVH.  In Deuteronomy chapter 8 verse 3 (there were no chapters and verses in the original written Word of GOD), it is written:

All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers. And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy GOD led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no. And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. Deuteronomy 8:1-3 (KJV)

Note:  Read the whole chapter of Deuteronomy chapter 8

In Matthew chapter 4, the devil quotes from Psalm 91, but Yahshua did not yield to the temptation, He spoke thus:  It is written again, thou shalt not tempt the LORD thy GOD. Matthew 4:7 (KJV)

“Ye shall not tempt the LORD your GOD” … “Deuteronomy 6:16 (KJV)

Note: Read the whole chapter of Deuteronomy 6; Psalm 78:14, 41. 56; Psalm 106:14 (read Psalm 106)

In Matthew chapter 4, the devil shows Yahshua the glory of this world (earth) and talks to Yahshua about worshipping him.  Yahshua stated:  Get thee hence, satan, for it is written, thou shalt worship the LORD thy GOD, and Him only shalt thou serve.  Matthew 4:10 (KJV)

In the immediate passage above, where was Yahshua’s response written?    Exodus 9:1 (read the whole chapter) and Exodus 9:13; Exodus 20:1-11 (read the whole chapter)

James 4:7-10 (read the whole chapter)

Submit yourselves therefore to GOD. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to GOD, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double mindedJames 4:7-8 (KJV)

Repent for the remission of sins, and believe and receive the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.  John 3:11-21 (KJV)
